Our Malanda, Charters Towers, Innisfail, and Edmonton teams are all equipped to provide their respective regions with a wide variety of equine services.

These services include:

Routine Vaccinations

• Inclusive of vaccinations for Hendra Virus, Tetanus and Strangles. Other equine vaccinations, including those for herpesvirus and salmonella are available upon special request.

Lameness Evaluations

• Our veterinarians can perform thorough lameness work ups, from flexion and palpation through to diagnostic nerve and joint blocks. Our team is also equipped to perform ultrasounds and digital radiology.

Poor Performance Evaluations

• An investigative health assessment of your horses which can include lameness examination, ultrasound, in-house and external blood testing, nutritional evaluation and advice as well as gastroscopy in specific cases.

Equine Dentistry

• Veterinarians across our mixed practice clinics are all equipped with postgraduate qualifications in equine dentistry. Our services include routine dental services and extend through to diagnostics and surgical  tooth extraction as required. See our Equine Dentistry services page for a full list of services.

Medical Care and Hospitalisation Facilities

• Our Malanda and Charters Towers clinics are equipped with horse stables and our Malanda clinic has equine surgical facilities. Malanda also has intensive care facilities and is a registered Equine Hospital, allowing for intensive medical care and treatment as required. In addition, our Malanda clinic also contains grazing paddocks for less intensive patients to encourage normal grazing behaviour and recovery. In addition, our Malanda hospital is also designed for reproductive services and are designed for the comfort of mares and foals.

Equine Surgery

• Both Dr Frank Condon and Dr Mick Ruppin have completed memberships in Equine Surgery and perform a large range of surgical treatments to a variety of equine patients ensuring skilled and professional surgical options for you and your horse. Our Malanda clinic also has a registered equine hospital equipped with an operating theatre and a padded recovery room linked by a mechanical gantry system.

Reproduction Services

• Our Malanda, Edmonton and Charters Towers teams are equipped to perform artificial insemination (AI) services with both chilled and frozen semen, and embryo transfer (Malanda). Other services include infertility assessments as well as semen collection and embryo services. Please see our Equine Reproduction page for more information.

Hendra Virus and Vaccination Policy

• Our clinic policy is in place to encourage vaccination as a safe, effective and reliable means of preventing Hendra virus infection in horses and humans. This view is supported by all major stakeholders including the Australian Veterinary Association, Equine Veterinarians Australia, Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, the Federal Department of Agriculture and Water Resources and the 2017 Queensland Parliamentary Inquiry into the vaccine. It also protects our team against any possible risk of dangerous infection. We will always attend a horse if requested by the owner. Horses requiring routine or elective care must be up to date with Hendra vaccination or vaccinated at the first visit. Surcharges can apply for non-adherence to this policy. Horses not up to date with Hendra vaccination requiring emergency or unplanned care (e.g. colic) will always be attended to if requested by the owner. However, higher examination fees will apply, as will testing for Hendra virus, and procedures deemed to be invasive or involving body fluids will not be performed.
