The current clinic and large animal hospital in Malanda was established in 1982 and has gone through several major renovations.

In 2008, a registered equine hospital and surgery and a large undercover cattle facility were completed.

The clinic in Malanda is a state of the art veterinary facility. It can service the needs of all its other practices and clients as well as providing a world class teaching facility for final year veterinary students from James Cook University.

The equine hospital is fully equipped for reproduction services, surgery, radiographs and much more to ensure the top health of equine patients. Similarly, the small animal hospital is home to an experienced team who can ensure the best care for your furry friend.

A large team veterinarians work from the Malanda clinic and service large areas of North Queensland for small animal, equine and bovine clients. A large part of the Malanda clinics clientele is made up of local dairy farmers.

The Tableland Veterinary Service administrative centre and almost all of the clinic directors are based at the Malanda clinic.

Bush & Gulf Clinic

Tableland Veterinary Service runs several bush clinics each year that travel into the gulf to towns such as Mt Surprise, Einasleigh, Georgetown, and Normanton. These clinics run over 3-5 days and include all routine minor surgical procedures, small animal vaccinations through to equine dentistry or pregnancy diagnosis and other equine procedures and cattle work. We have been undertaking regular runs to the Gulf country for more than 30 years.

Dr Jamie Russell

Associate Veterinarian

Jamie was raised on the family’s large cattle station near Springsure, Central Queensland where her love of animals and the bush life first started. After completing high school at Emerald State High, she left home and moved to Townsville to complete her Veterinary degree in 2018. After graduating, she packed her bags again and set off to the Tablelands to join our Malanda Clinic. In her spare time, you might find Jamie walking her faithful old Labrador ‘Honey’ around the beautiful Tableland countryside, dropping over the range to explore Cairns or travelling home to help on the station whenever possible.

Laura Seccull

Associate Veterinarian

Dr Laura Seccull has been with the Tableland Veterinary Service team since 2020, starting in our Malanda clinic, she spent time with our Charters Towers team before making the move to the Tablelands permanently. She graduated from James Cook University in Townsville in 2019 and has a keen interest in equine practice as well as small animal surgery. In addition, she has a strong interest in equine dentistry and has completed several levels of equine dentistry training. Outside of work, you can find Laura water skiing around the Tablelands!

Jason Chuck

General Manager

Jason grew up on the Atherton Tablelands between Malanda and Yungaburra, before moving away for a number of years and finishing school in Townsville. After his family moved back to Yungaburra in 1998, Jason went into the family business, studying Commerce at James Cook University and also becoming a chef.

In 2005, Jason went to the UK to work where he fell in love with a vet student before returning to Australia with his now fiancé, Gemma and resettling on the Tablelands. Gemma worked at TVS for 4 years while Jason continued working as a chef and managing Eden House in Yungaburra.

In 2010, Jason and Gemma moved to SW Victoria, where Jason changed career track and became Practice Manager of a large dairy and mixed practice veterinary clinic in Warrnambool. Over the next 9 years, Jason undertook further studies, obtaining his MBA through Deakin University and finishing his Chartered Accounting studies while working in a number of senior management roles in large veterinary businesses.

Jason and Gemma, with their two daughters, Georgina and Emily, returned to the Tablelands in 2020 to be closer to family and friends while they raise their family. They have two naughty Jack Russells – Cricket and Socka – and a tortoise shell cat called Magoo.

Jason is our Practice Manager at Atherton and Human Resource Manager for TVS. He has a keen interest in creating a positive workplace and developing people, and in his spare time, loves trail running and cooking for friends.
